Own the profitability analytics for MDI. Role includes all aspects of profitability analytics from building models that fully allocate expenses to targets based on appropriate activities & drivers through working with business partners on key actions for improved profitability. Profitability will be analyzed related to customer(s), potential customer(s), vendors/ manufacturers and items. Role is ulitmately responsible for driving increased overall Company profitability through analytics and working with business partners. Level 12.


Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Produce the monthly customer profitability statements and perform associated analytics to offer possible what-if scenarios and actions to help guide Management and other Operational teams on decisions that would improve profitability. This includes story-telling and visualizations to ensure information is learned and not just received. 
  • Using knowledge of wholesale and warehouse businesses, for each general ledger account, ensure that the activity drivers and allocation models accurately reflect current operations. Continually work with business to understand changes in drivers that can affect the model results. 
  • Identify anomalies or opportunities for improvement and then work with business partners' to build out and implement action plans. Perform profitability post reviews to gauge success of business partners' action plans, then make any additional adjustments and repeat the cycle. 
  • Work with IT and external consultants (if applicable) to keep software & models up to date. 
  • As part of the monthly statement production, validate data files that feed into model. If new general ledger accounts are created, work with Accounting and appropriate operational teams to build allocation model. If required, build top side adjustments (outside of the system) to ensure results are as accurate as possible. Work with IT and external consultants (if applicable) to systematically add to software/ models. 
  • Lead monthly meeting to present results to Senior Management. Also includes answering daily inquires from Senior Management and other operational partners. 
  • Using assumptions from profitability models, assist in building new customer proformas to determine fee structures and overall profitability. Work closely with peer Manager of Analytics on presentation of information to Management and other business partners. 
  • Build new process and models for vendor profitability and potentially item profitability. This includes understanding applicable accounting results and processes, identifying new activity drivers and creating respective models. Will require building project plan and leading a project team with IT, Accounting and Operational partner involvement. In addition to technically creating the models, will also include earning business approval and validation. 
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.


Bachelors of Science in Business, Accounting, Analytics, Engineering or other related field
7-10 years experience working in corporate finance or analytic position in wholesale, distribution and/ or retail industry
7-10 years experience with business intelligence, data querying and visualization tools
7-10 years experience partnering with and presenting to Senior Management exhibiting excellent oral and written communication
3-5 years experience doing financial planning & analysis or activity based costing analytics
3-5 years experience showcasing strong analytical aptitude, including experience performing basic quantitative modeling
3-5 years of experience leading project deliverables through to completion
Ability to work independently, under general guidance
Problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment
Strong Microsoft Office Experience.


Masters in Business or Master in Analytics
Experience with Cognos Analytics, SPSS or SAS Analytics
3-5 years Cost Accounting experience
